 Eva Leube Ari Watch - Striking Outside and Inside

The independent Australian timepiecemaker Eva Leube is pleased to offer her new Ari watch. It is named after Eva’s son, since the birth of the boy was followed by starting her own watchmaking business.

Striking outside and inside, the new Eva Leube watch is delivered in 18k gold or platinum 950 case - 52.44mm x 21.6mm x 8.45mm. Hand-engraved by the esteemed master John W. Thompson, it also features a screwed locking crown. The top and both sides of the case are assembled with three glare-proofed sapphire crystals.

Beneath the front glass there are two dials, both sculptured in 18k gold. The counter in the upper part of the watch face is in charge of small seconds. The hours and minutes are shown on the central display. All the hands are made of heat-blued steel. The lower part of the dial is occupied by a ratchet wheel, hand-engraved with Eva Leube inscription.

The lateral sapphire crystals provide an enjoyable vision of a manual-wound movement, engraved just like the case. Built on 18 jewels, the heart of the new Eva Leube Ari watch operates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour and offers a 40-hour power reserve.

The mechanism comprises 209 components, including a free sprung balance with regulating screws as well as a highly-modified gear train from a Record 302 calibre. The main plate and bridges are in rhodium-plated brass.

The new Eva Leube watch is mounted on a customized leather strap.

New Montblanc Homage to Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Watch

 In 2014, Montblanc pays homage to Nicolas Rieussec, a great clockmaker, the watchmaker to the French royal court, with an introduction of a new chronograph watch – an interpretation of the Nicolas Rieussec first patented chronograph born in 1821. The timepiece stands out due to its hour-circle positioned in the upper part of the dial and the chronograph’s elapsed-time counters found in the lower part of the dial.
Following the steps of the original model, the Montblanc “Homage to Nicolas Rieussec” chronograph watch features the elapsed time with help of two rotating discs, with a motionless hand indicating the passing seconds and minutes. It is interesting to mention that Nicolas Rieussec created this construction for accurate measurement of the elapsed times of horses running at a horserace.
The Montblanc watch also offers the date function, indicates the time in two different time zones and provides a day/night display.

The novelty, crafted in rose gold or steel, has maintained the color scheme and the styling of the hands as they were presented by the original Nicolas Rieussec watch, yet it uses innovative materials and technologies.The peculiarity of the model is its chronograph hand – the horizontal blued-metal rhombus is designed as a double index. Its tips point to the calibrated scale on the two rotating discs. The white-lacquered discs, one for 60 elapsed seconds and the other for 30 elapsed minutes, have been inspired by the look of the 1821 timepiece.

The hour-circle features slim black strokes and Arabic numerals positioned at 10-minute intervals. It holds an exciting surprise - in the dark the hidden hour numerals become visible on the dial. The secret of this amazing feature is the following: the hour-circle is rendered in ultramodern hybrid ceramic permeated with Superluminova pigments that form the Arabic hour numerals. They are invisible in daylight as they are smartly embedded into the hour ring, and are of the same color. But in the dark, the luminous pigments, along with the Superluminova-filled hour- and minute-hand, start to glow, providing great legibility.

The pale enamel-like hour-circle and the chronograph discs distinctively contrast with the fine-grained dial texture. The date display aperture is found at 3 o’clock, while the guilloche-decorated day/night indicator is positioned at 9 o’clock. A skeleton hour-hand shows the time in a second time zone.

The heart of the Homage to Nicolas Rieussec watch is a self-winding mechanical in-house movement - Calibre MB R200, characterized by supreme mechanical performance and beauty. The monopusher chronograph is governed by a laboriously milled column-wheel. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour and built with a double barrel, the 319-component movement gives an advantage of a 72-hour power reserve. The movement’s components are embellished with Geneva waves and feature beveled, polished edges. The mechanism also boasts red jewels, blued screws and shiny golden brass wheels. You can admire every detail via the sapphire crystal case-back.

The slightly cambered sapphire crystal with antireflective treatment on both sides protects the dial. The case provides great comfort on the wrist due to its doubly stepped horns that angle slightly downward. The monopusher chronograph button is unconventionally located at 8 o’clock and can be operated with the tip of the wearer’s right thumb. The deeply grooved crown demonstrates a domed Montblanc emblem in black and white. The 43mm case is teamed with an alligator-skin strap equipped with a pin buckle.

The Montblanc Homage to Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph watch will be available in autumn 2014. The rose gold model will be limited to 193 pieces (the number of the limited edition refers to the fact that 193 years ago Nicolas Rieussec introduced his first patented chronograph). The stainless steel version is limited to 565 pieces.
